As the storm clouds clear, Tuesday marks the beginning of a challenging journey for many Houston families affected by Hurricane Beryl. With power outages widespread, residents are grappling with stifling heat and the loss of essential services.

The church set up a cooling center and distributed bottles of water to help people in the aftermath of the storm. One resident expressed profound gratitude for the church’s support, “The storm was outrageous, the winds were scandalous. But I thank God the church is here, giving out water. We can’t survive without it,” he said.

Volunteers will be at the church loading water into visitor’s vehicles and welcoming individuals into the cooling center, which will remain open until 8 p.m.Moriah Ballard joined the KPRC 2 digital team in the fall of 2021.
