The Opposition has launched a fresh round of attacks on the Albanese government’s approach to domestic security after a man released from immigration detention was alleged to have been involved in a group that violently attacked a Perth couple during an invasion of their home.
Western Australia Police on Monday said three people had been charged over an aggravated home burglary in Girrawheen from April 16, which saw Ninette Simons, 73, and Philip Simons, 76, assaulted in their home before having their lives’ worth of savings stolen.punched in the face several times and lost consciousness
Among the trio was Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan, 43, a detainee set free from the NZYQ cohort of about 150 individuals in November last year, after the High Court made a landmark judgement deeming indefinite immigration detention unlawful for those that have no reasonable prospect of deportation in the foreseeable future.
“They said that they would issue, on a monthly basis, reports of how many of the… hardened criminals were wearing ankle bracelets, what monitoring was taking place, how many of them had broken their curfews. Under the preventative legislation, the Immigration Minister has powers to re-detain certain people released from immigration detention who are found – by a court - to be of unacceptable risks to the public through a tendency of committing serious crimes.Community Protection Board
