The Coalition is on the verge of a deal with Labor which will see retirees pay more in terms of contributions for their aged care.

Sky News Australia has revealed the Coalition is on the verge of a deal with Labor which will see retirees pay more in terms of contributions for their aged care.

A snap shadow cabinet meeting was called for 8.30am with a Coalition party room set at 10.30am to agree to the reforms. Picture: Getty The shadow cabinet resolved that the Coalition would reserve its position on the final Bill but would agree to a sliding scale of greater contributions people will have to pay for their aged care, Coalition sources said.

Australians would be charged depending on their wealth and those already in the aged care system would have their payments grandfathered, sources said. Sky News has previously reported the reforms involve the lifting of a refundable accommodation deposit cap as well as a lift in aged care fees.
