Three major wildfires threaten Los Angeles, with firefighters facing critical water shortages and residents forced to evacuate. Infrastructure concerns and mismanagement are highlighted as the blazes consume thousands of acres.
California firefighters are facing a severe water shortage as they desperately combat three rapidly expanding wildfires threatening vast areas around Los Angeles . Emergency responders have reported encountering bone-dry hydrants in their efforts to contain the blazes. The Department of Water and Power confirmed reports of empty hydrants, though they did not disclose specific numbers.
Billionaire LA developer Rick Caruso, a former commissioner of the city’s water board, observed the dry hydrants while several homes near his Palisades Village shopping center were engulfed in flames. Caruso criticized the situation, stating, 'The firefighters are there and there’s nothing they can do — we’ve got neighborhoods burning, homes burning, and businesses burning. … It should never happen.' He further pointed out that this incident highlights systemic issues within the city, including mismanagement and outdated infrastructure. A spokesperson for the Department of Water and Power assured that crews were working in the affected neighborhood to ensure the availability of water supplies, noting that the area is serviced by water tanks and close coordination is underway to maintain supply. Meanwhile, the wildfires have had a devastating impact on the region, leaving nearly 300,000 California power customers without electricity early Wednesday morning. The three fires – Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst – have collectively consumed over 4,000 acres in Los Angeles County with zero containment
