KTVF celebrates 69 years of operations in Interior Alaska
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - KTVF first began operations on Feb. 17, 1955. Originally providing both radio and television broadcasts, KTVF began as an affiliate of CBS and stayed as an affiliate until 1996.
Founded by Augie Hiebert, KTVF served as a sister station to KTVA in Anchorage which was started in 1953. In the early years, the station was the only first and only television station in the Fairbanks area. It also provided some NBC programs and was a secondary affiliate for ABC. 1996 brought a change of affiliation as KTVF switched from CBS to NBC.
Other developments in station history included the switch from black and white to color after a flood in 1967 when KTVF was taken off air. In 2010, the station converted to high definition programming in conjunction with the Winter Olympics in Vancouver B.C. Full HD programming came two years later. After 69 years of service in the Fairbanks area, many other changes have occurred such as changes in ownership, but KTVF continues to proudly serve the community working to provide quality content that is important to the Interior Alaska.
