Diving into missing persons cold cases in Alaska.
Published: Feb. 9, 2024 at 4:20 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - The oldest name from the Missing Alaska Natives and American Indians list in the Fairbanks North Star Borough is that of Ida Rose Jacomet. She has not been seen since October 2 of 1975.
According to Alaska Department of Public Safety Communications Director Austin McDaniel, four analysts have been assigned to look into missing Native persons in Alaska. As of January 9 the analysts went through the list of all the reports of missing indigenous persons and classified them as environmental, not suspicious, suspicious or unknown.Not a lot of details are available in Ida’s case.
She went to the Circle M Bar, which stood at 1323 Old Richardson Highway, on the evening of October 2, 1975. After that, no one has reported seeing her; but her purse was later found in the parking lot. She has been considered “missing endangered” since then.“It always remains a priority of us to locate a person’s human remains and return those to a person’s loved ones,” McDaniel said. “That’s why we leave people on the missing persons list. You don’t get removed after a certain period of time.
Ida’s case - and many others - remain unclear, but the search is ongoing and they haven’t been forgotten.
