Playing without their three leading scorers, the fifth-place Knicks did something they hadn’t accomplished offensively in more than 44 years.
INDIANAPOLIS — The Knicks began playing out the final three-game string of the regular season Wednesday night, taking advantage of the luxury of resting top players while they await their first round playoff series against the Cavaliers.
Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes and Obi Toppin gave the Knicks three 30-point scorers in one game for the first time since March 24, 1979 . “Now the next step is continue to play as well as we can to take that into the playoffs. Don’t change the approach.”Without Julius Randle , Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett , Quickley led the Knicks with 39 points and Toppin had 32 while making his third straight start in place of Randle.
The Knicks embarked on a 17-0 run in the first quarter to take a 25-9 lead, before Toppin came up hobbling with what appeared to be a twisted ankle.
