Klein Collins' Brette Reagan is the first female baseball coach in district history
Brette Reagan is the sophomore baseball coach at Klein Collins. She is the first female baseball coach in district history.From a young age, Brette Reagan always liked running with the boys.
Women occupying jobs in male-dominated sports is something that is seen more commonly, especially in collegiate and professional-level settings. But when it comes to high school sports, the narrative isn’t quite the same. Sports such as football and baseball remain hardly accessed by women. For 10 years, Reagan’s life revolved around coaching a high school-level select team and developing future collegiate players. After hitting the decade mark, she realized coaching travel softball prevented her from having balance in her life. Being constantly on the go with no free time made it hard to catch her breath. She ultimately made the tough decision to leave the travel softball world in 2021.
Although she had not planned on coaching at Klein Collins, Reagan wanted to give it a try. With plenty of family and friends that had played sports at Klein Collins, she was well-versed in everything and everyone surrounding Tiger athletics. Reagan says getting the opportunity to be involved in a familiar athletic program was a surreal moment for her.
“Whenever we gave this thing the green light, she was no holds barred getting after it,'' Mitchell said. ¨She spent the entire summer up here during strength and conditioning camp with the baseball guys, and she did sports-specific instruction with them pretty much every day. It was probably as seamless a transition as you could even imagine.”
