This missed field goal by Bert Auburn was among Texas' squandered opportunities in the red zone during a narrow loss to Alabama.AUSTIN — No coach wants to line up for a field goal inside the red zone. And they certainly don’t want to do so on 80 percent of their team’s trips inside the 20, as Texas did in Saturday’s one-point loss to No. 1 Alabama.
Looking back on it, Sarkisian laid out a few reasons why Texas found it so hard to get into the end zone against Alabama. Texas scored 10 points off its first two trips, both led by redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers. And on the first trip, which resulted in a 26-yard field goal, officials appeared to miss a pass interference call on Ewers’ third-and-goal fade to tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders.
