The Ministry of Communications and Digital has revealed that 350 telecommunications towers nationwide that had been affected by floods since 2014 have been upgraded. The upgrading works were done through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission .
According to Bernama, KKD Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the ministry has the complete list of telecommunication towers affected by floods and will provide detailed information soon. Currently, upgrading works are still ongoing in Kelantan and the KKD has requested for the process to be expedited. As of right now, improvement works have been done in the East Coast states, 127 of which were sites in Kelantan. The upgrade ensures that problems related to telecommunications will not arise when floods occur in the future and that people will continue to enjoy quality service.
In relation to that, MCMC chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus asserted that platforms of the flood-affected telecommunication towers were raised as high as one to four metres. These involve costs of between RM60,000 to RM180,000 depending on the surrounding area and situation at the site. He further revealed that during the floods in December 2022, about 100 towers were affected due to power outages but MCMC received good cooperation from Tenaga Nasional Berhad .
