Households are only just discovering there's a bargain alternative to dishwasher rinse aid that costs merely 60p and is likely already sitting in your kitchen cupboard. Once you've got a dishwasher, there are numerous tasks to stay on top of, from cleaning maintenance to refilling the salt and ensuring you've got sufficient tablets.
One thing folk tend to overlook is purchasing rinse aid, largely because of the expense and it appearing pointless. But people are only just cottoning on to the fact there's an alternative that can be utilised in the appliance, and you've probably already got it in your cupboard or beneath the sink. One TikTok user, @anadovada, revealed several dishwasher tips in a clip she posted last week - but viewers were stunned by what she employed instead of rinse aid. She explained: 'Use vinegar instead of rinse aid, it helps prevent water spots and leave dishes shiny.' One user responded: 'Yes! ! the vinegar helped. I accidently figured this out because I had a random vinegar that needed to be used up so I added it.' A second commented: 'Yep I use vinegar too,' whilst another added: 'Thank you for this.' Additional tricks the TikTok user revealed included positioning a towel in the door to soak up steam from within the machine, wiping the sides of the dishwasher to prevent damage to the seals and remembering to clean the filter. Although, users were baffled when the user only suggested cleaning the filter every six months. One person commented: 'Every 6 months? Jesus. I wash it weekly.' Another user chimed in: 'Girl you gotta wash that filter every month!'. A third wrote: 'I clean my filter every three uses ! six months gross! You'd smell it for sure!'.
