Kirtland, 11-1 and the top seed in Division VI, Region 21, next faces Chagrin Valley Conference rival Cuyahoga Heights.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Will Beers rushed for 169 yards on just 12 carries Friday as host Kirtland amassed 309 yards on the ground on the way to a 48-26 thrashing of Canton Central Catholic in a second round Division VI playoff game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score might indicate.

Kirtland, 11-1 and the top seed in Division VI, Region 21, next faces Chagrin Valley Conference rival Cuyahoga Heights, which went on the road to defeat Hanoverton United, 26-7. The game will be played at a site to be announced by the OHSAA on Sunday. The Hornets defeated Cuyahoga Heights on Sept. 15, 35-0.

Beers, who averages more than 10 yards per carry for the season, was the leading rusher in the game, but he never found the end zone. That was left to Jake Laverde and Rocco Alfieri, who each scored twice, while Macguire Boyd and Danny Alfieri each found the end zone once. Laverde also threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Gino Blasini.
