British royalty is coming to the United States. In a historic move, King Charles III and Queen Camilla have accepted an invitation from President Donald Trump to embark on a state visit.This will be Charles’s first official state visit as monarch.
While the king visited the U.S. over a dozen times as the Prince of Wales—and met with plenty of presidents—he has never undertaken an official state visit to the country before.The trip will take place in April, but the itinerary and locations have yet to be disclosed. While abroad, Charles and Camilla will also visit the Caribbean island of Bermuda, Buckingham Palace confirmed today—Charles’s first, as monarch, to a British overseas territory.The palace added that the king’s visit hosted by the Trumps will celebrate the “historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship” between the two countries.Charles’s state visit to the U.S. comes after Donald and Melania Trump flew to London last September for their own state visit. “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the first lady later this year,” the palace said in a statement at the time, following reports that Charles was hesitant to extend the invitation to Mr. Trump.While in the United Kingdom, the president and first lady attended a lavish banquet at Windsor Castle thrown by the royals in their honor. Prince William and Princess Catherine were also present, and Kate looked radiant in a gold dress and diamond Lover’s Knot Tiara.
