'It was really innocent, which is so crazy,' Kim Kardashian said. She said Jenner and the former Meghan Markle have been friends for years and have 'a really sweet relationship,' which led to Meghan and Harry being on the guest list with the likes of Mariah Carey and Oprah Winfrey for Jenner's star-studded birthday party. Kim Kardashian said she asked the royal couple if it was OK to post photos of them from the night. 'We’re all communicating about like what we’re going to post,' Kardashian said. 'We’re never ones to post without permission. That's not who we are.' She said they initially received permission, but then requested they be taken down. The photos were posted around the time of Remembrance Day, a British memorial day that honors military veterans who have died in the line of duty. Prince Harry is a British military veteran himself. 'We were told that it was totally cool to post, and then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day, and they didn’t want to be seen at a party even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down,' Kardashian said. 'And then I think they realized like, 'Ugh, this was so silly.'' The royal couple had also attended the Baby2Baby gala event earlier that night to support the charity event in which their friend, tennis legend Serena Williams, was honored with an award. 'It's like a charity event, so like that was fine, but maybe not partying and dancing on the dance floor ,' Kardashian said. 'We took them down to respect Remembrance Day.' Jenner posted a carousel of photos on Instagram featuring many of the celebrity guests, but Harry and Meghan were absent. Kardashian seemed to see the scrutiny over the deleted photos as an overblown issue. 'You've just got to laugh at the situation sometimes and just like lighten it up,' she said. 'If everyone’s taking it the wrong way like lean in.' She suggested they should've made it into a bit for her undergarment company. 'I was like we should do a full Skims campaign, take the photo, post it and then delete it 30 minutes later and say, 'Oh, sorry. I didn’t have permission to post those photos for the campaign,'' she said. 'That would have hit so funny if we just made it light and made it funny. I think it would've been received differently. 'But I hated how that was received for everyone,' she continued. 'It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous that didn't have to be.' TODAY.com has reached out to the Sussexes for comment and has not heard back by the time of publication.
