Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has applauded police for confiscating several rifles and ammunition from alleged cash-in-transit robbers in Khayelitsha.Marais says investigations are ongoing.
“I commend the police for an excellently planned and executed plan in Khayelitsha. The arms and ammunition confiscated will no longer be used to terrorize our people. Suspects arrested will be able to further provide information of the origin and planned use of the weapons and ammunition.” Seven AK-47 rifles, two R-5 rifles, one R-4 rifle, a Dashprod rifle, two pistols, and three explosive charges were found in the possession of the suspects.
The number of CIT robbers that have died in a shoot out with police in Khayelitsha , Cape Town has risen to 8. The eight suspected robbers were allegedly on their way to commit a CIT robbery in the area.
