Over 400 calls poured in within six hours — some from survivors, others from people who didn’t make it. NBC 5’s Vince Sims has the latest.The calls from July 4, 2025, are being released in their entirety without redaction, in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act requests that several media outlets completed, according to KPD.KPD said the decision to release the calls is governed by federal law, and each call was reviewed in regard to caller privacy and legal compliance. In the early morning hours of July 4th, two Kerrville police dispatchers started getting frantic calls. “We are stuck on a roof on highway 39,” a 911 caller said. “We need a boat or a helicopter. It’s rising.” One after another came in as people woke up to flood waters quickly rising, trapping them in their homes. “We are on the roof, and the water is almost to the roof line,” a 911 caller said. “We need a boat to come get us. We've got two children.” These 911 calls, the police chief calls distressing, are now being released. Over six hours, 435 calls came in. “We live about a mile down the road from Camp Mystic, and we've already got two little girls who have come down the river, and we've gotten to them, but I’m not sure how many else are out there,” a 911 caller said.“Camp Mystic, we need search and rescue, please,” a 911 caller said. “We’re missing 20 to 40 people here since the flood. We’re out of power, hardly have any cell service.”A tragic morning where 911 dispatchers tried to provide what help they could over the phone. “I know we got everything we can headed that direction to try and help,” a 911 dispatcher said on a call. “The best thing we can tell ya’ll right now is try your best to get as high to higher ground as you can.”
