Much as it continues to make interesting noises about transformation and diversity, the DA clearly is stuck to its past, where black members have no voice, writes Kenneth Mokgatlhe
Few were surprised that when the DA emerged from its federal congress on the weekend, those elected to senior positions were white men.
The problem with the DA is not only that it is led by white powerful men, but also the reluctance to introduce fundamental economic policies which talk to black communities. Black and white people are not and will never be equal players if the DA persists on its current trajectory. The DA should advance a conversation about the possible and much-needed reparations and other means of redress to correct the imbalances of the past.
In a real sense, the DA is supposed to publicly declare the ANC as its worst enemy but they simply cannot do that as the ANC and DA are the same. The only problem, as we have seen in the past, is when the DA does not like a certain individual to be given power, such as Jacob Zuma and his allies, and David Mabuza. The DA is content with the ANC but only when their preferred candidate is at the helm of leadership positions, such as Ramaphosa.
