White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refuted speculation Tuesday that President Joe Biden is suffering from dementia.
The question followed mounting panic in Democratic circles following Biden ’s lackluster performance at the first presidential debate. His frequent looks of confusion and hoarse voice, Jean-Pierre said, should not be attributed to symptoms of dementia or degenerative illness. Jean-Pierre went on to suggest the reporter make sure to ask “the other guy” that question in reference to former President Donald Trump . She then took another question.
Dementia is a degenerative disease that becomes common in old age. It involves symptoms of confusion, unsteady walking and mood swings. Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., on Tuesday condemned the “dismissive attitude” of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign as Americans raise concerns over the 81-year-old’s physical and mental fitness.
I really do criticize the campaign for a dismissive attitude towards people who are raising questions for discussion,” the senator"Passivity is not the response that is going to work for us,” he added. “We all have to be self conscious. We all have to be acutely aware that our obligation is to the country, even more than the party. That’s the obligation we have — what’s best for the country.”
