Former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is reportedly being traded from the New York Jets to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical. The trade comes after a disappointing stint with the Jets, where Fields' performance led to his departure. He now has the opportunity to potentially start for the Chiefs due to Patrick Mahomes' injury.

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – NOVEMBER 23: Justin Fields #7 of the New York Jets looks to pass prior to an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on November 23, 2025 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields’ odyssey since leaving the team is going to continue in Kansas City. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and other reports, Fields will be traded by the New York Jets to the Chiefs, with the deal pending until a physical is completed.Trade: the New York Jets are finalizing a deal that will send QB Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical, per ESPN sources. Other teams were interested, but Fields’ preference was to go to Kansas City.Fields was drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bears, and ultimately appeared in 40 games for the team, with a 60.3% completion percentage and 40 touchdown passes, along with 30 interceptions. The Bears traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 before selecting Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in that year’s draft. Fields ultimately played in 10 games for the Steelers, starting six of them, throwing for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns in those contests. He then signed a deal with the Jets to be their starting quarterback last season, but that union quickly soured as he threw just seven touchdown passes in nine games."It's hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he's got. I mean, he has ability, but something just is not jiving,” he said. “If we can just complete a pass, it would look good.” Fields will now get the opportunity to potentially start for the Chiefs as Patrick Mahomes recovers from a devastating knee injury that saw him tear both the ACL and LCL in his left knee during a December 14 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. It’s unclear whether Mahomes will be ready for the regular season, but the Chiefs needed a veteran quarterback as a stopgap option after Gardner Minshew signed a free-agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals at the start of NFL free agency.
