Police departments nationwide and in the Phoenix area say they are seeing a rise in a crime called 'jugging,' and officials with one East Valley police department say people should be extra aware

Police departments in the Phoenix area, as well as other departments around the U.S., say they are seeing a rise in a crime called "jugging," and they are warning shoppers to be extra aware of their surroundings this holiday season."There's been an uptick nationwide, but for Chandler , not so much an uptick. This is more of a proactive 'let's get the word out to the community,'" said Sgt. Ricky Gonzales with the Chandler Police Department.

"Typically when we would see these things in the past, it was more of a scenario where they'd be some form of a robbery, either a confrontation someone's caused, whether they're armed or not," said Sgt. Gonzales. In cases of Jugging, one might never see the suspect."A lot of times, these folks are following people home and waiting until you get inside or your next destination, forcing entry into your vehicle and taking those items," said Sgt. Gonzales.
