An Alabama judge throws out dozens of cases from Brookside police and cites 'lack of credibility.'

“She did the right thing,” said attorney John Amari after Judge Owens dismissed cases for two of his clients. “Jefferson County is lucky to have her.”

“... due to the likelihood that the charging officer will be unavailable for trial, or otherwise unable to provide sufficient testimony and admissible evidence, it is unlikely that at the time of trial a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt can be obtained,” Parnell wrote in motions to dismiss several of the cases. “Accordingly, further prosecution of the above referenced charges will not be pursued.

Adam Danneman, a public defender in Jefferson County, said his office flags all Brookside cases for extra scrutiny. He said the office has a rule of “no pleas from Brookside,” meaning staffers are to look long and hard before advising clients to plead guilty to charges there.
