A judge has temporarily halted shooting activities at the San Antonio Target, Hunting and Fishing Club following a lawsuit filed by a neighboring property owner alleging reckless operations and safety concerns.

A judge has put a temporary halt to the San Antonio Target, Hunting and Fishing Club allowing any type of shooting on its property after an adjacent landowner alleged in a lawsuit that it and neighboring residents were at significant risk of harm due to the club’s “reckless operations.” SA Given to Fly LP obtained a temporary restraining order last month against the club at 6722 W. Hausman Road after accusing club members of firing “live ammunition into a space with no safety measures in place.

” SA Given, which owns more than 35 acres next to the club, alleges the club operates “like a drinking fraternity” that “prioritizes its members’ gunplay over the rights of its neighboring property owners to live and operate free from serious injury or death.” The club denied the allegations in a Dec. 27 answer to the lawsuit and said SA Given was “contributory negligent in causing their damages or injuries.” Attorney Mark Anthony Sánchez, who represents the club in the case, did not have an immediate comment. Boerne lawyer Joshua Sisam, who represents SA Given, said rifle bullets, bird shot and buckshot have been found on its property. SA Given principals tried to work it out with the club but were unsuccessful, he added. “Our goal is to be good neighbors, but we shouldn’t have worry about getting shot on our own property,” Sisam said. “We shouldn’t have to duck and cover on our own property.” The club has not provided any assurance to SA Given that a “qualified Range Safety Officer” will be on duty at all times the club is open or that it will follow National Rifle Association guidelines for shooting ranges, the lawsuit alleges. The two sides will be back in court on Monday for a hearing on a temporary injunction. If SA Given prevails, the club would be prohibited from allowing any shooting on its property until the case is resolved. Visiting state District Judge Elma Salinas Ender in San Antonio granted the temporary restraining order on Dec. 1
