ICYMI: The Guardians ended their 7-game losing streak with a comeback win over Oakland on Friday night.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Oakland Athletics, April 29, 2022OAKLAND, Calif. — Cleveland’s bats came alive in the late innings and the Guardians’ bullpen clamped down when it needed to most, chasing away a week’s worth of frustration with a 9-8 victory Friday in Oakland.
Ramírez, whose solo home run in the first staked Cleveland to an early lead, ripped a two-run double against A’s righty Domingo Acevedo in the seventh, giving him a major league-best 28 RBI and cutting Oakland’s advantage to a single run. Ramírez ’s home run, his seventh on the season and third in the last three games, gave starting pitcher Aaron Civale a lead before he took the mound in the first.
Cleveland loaded the bases with nobody out in the third on a Myles Straw single and back-to-back walks by Owen Miller and Ramirez. But when Naylor popped out to third and Franmil Reyes struck out, it looked like the Guardians would come away empty. That’s when Giménez belted Montas’ 3-2 fastball to the seats in right.“Things didn’t go our way a lot of the game, but they kept at it, and that’s good,” he said.
