Reid Detmers allows one run in five innings, and Brandon Marsh collects three hits in a 4-1 victory that completes a strong homestand.
ANAHEIM ― On getaway day at Angel Stadium, one team clearly wanted to get away more than the other. It wasn’t the Angels.
The Angels will board their flight for Chicago in sole possession of first place in the American League West, 1½ games ahead of the Seattle Mariners. They won five of seven games on the homestand against Cleveland and Baltimore, and are not scheduled to play a team with a winning record for another 11 days.
Less than 24 hours after the two teams combined to score 14 runs and hit 20 balls 100 mph or harder, offense was scant. Two of Marsh’s singles clocked in at 100 mph, but no other Angel hitter reached triple digits with the bat. Most of the damage against Cleveland was self-inflicted.
