Houston Astros first baseman José Abreu got his first day off of the season on Wednesday against the Angels.“I think he’s hurting a little bit somewhere, but he’s not saying because he’s such a warrior,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said. “I think today was a good day for him to get a massage and get in the Whirlpool, take today and tomorrow off and he’ll be very familiar with Chicago and the White Sox.

“He’s so quiet and internalizes everything,” Baker said. “I know it’s killing him not to be helping this team and not to perform.” He said his preference was not to hit lefthanders Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker back to back like he did Wednesday.
