A six-time Pro Bowl defensive back for the Vikings and Buccaneers died at 65 following 'serious health issues'
"The Vikings are mourning the loss of Ring of Honor Safety Joey Browner," the team said in a post on X."Browner, a 6-time Pro Bowler and 4-time 1st Team All-Pro, was named to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team and a part of the 50 Greatest Vikings announced in 2010.
" Browner recorded 37 interceptions for 465 yards from 1983-92, playing all but the last season of his career in Minnesota.A first-round draft pick by the Vikings out of the University of Southern California, Browner is currently under consideration for his alma mater's Hall of Fame class. The inductees are scheduled to be announced later this year.."God blessed Joey with phenomenal talent and a big heart to love people and be a beacon of positivity. Truly, he will be missed."Browner was a four-year letterman at USC , where he doubled as a punt and kickoff returner when he was not playing in the defensive backfield.In addition to making six consecutive Pro Bowl teams , Browner was chosen to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-1980s second team. A native of Warren, Ohio, Browner is one of six men in his family who went on to play in the NFL along with brothers Jim Browner, Keith Browner, and Ross Browner; and nephews Keith Browner and Max Starks.
