The New York Jets have narrowed their search for a new general manager to three candidates after conducting second interviews. Darren Mougey of the Denver Broncos and Trey Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals are considered the frontrunners. The team is also considering Lance Newmark, assistant general manager of the Washington Commanders.

The New York Jets are down to their final three candidates for the general manager position after conducting second interviews with Darren Mougey , the assistant general manager of the Denver Broncos, and Trey Brown , a senior personnel executive with the Cincinnati Bengals. While the team also interviewed Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark on Tuesday, sources indicate that Mougey and Brown have emerged as the frontrunners.

The decision-making process has been a collaborative effort involving owner Woody Johnson, vice chairman Christopher Johnson, team president Hymie Elhai, and former general managers Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman, who now work for The 33rd Team. The Jets' search for a general manager to partner with new head coach Aaron Glenn, who was hired on Wednesday, has been extensive. The team initially interviewed 15 candidates and has narrowed the field down to these three finalists. Glenn, a 52-year-old former NFL defensive back, is expected to have input on the final decision. The Jets are looking to fill the void left by Joe Douglas, who served as general manager from 2019 until his dismissal in November.Mougey, 39, has spent his entire professional career with the Broncos, progressing from a scouting intern in 2012 to his current role as assistant general manager in 2022. He has worked under two general managers in Denver, John Elway and George Paton, and is known for his strong communication skills and adaptability. His deep understanding of the Broncos' organization, coupled with his work ethic and leadership qualities, make him a compelling candidate. Brown, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Bengals. Known for his excellent people skills and ability to learn various aspects of football operations, he has honed his expertise within a smaller staff structure in Cincinnati. His background in player evaluation and personnel management would be valuable to the Jets
