Key special teams contributors will be missing when Gang Green hosts Eagles in Week 6
The New York Jets will be without two cornerbacks, and possibly a third, when they host the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on October 15 at MetLife Stadium.
Brandin Echols and Justin Hardee, who have yet to practice this week due to hamstring injuries, will not be available come Sunday. Jets' head coach Robert Saleh ruled out the two defensive backs who double as special teams studs. "Injury wise, Hardee, he'll be out dealing with a hamstring. Same with Echols," said Saleh prior to Friday's practice in Florham Park.Meanwhile, starting cornerback D.J. Reed is in danger of missing a second straight game. Reed remains in concussion protocol, apparently needing to clear one final hurdle. He practiced in a limited capacity each of the past two days.Reed made 21 consecutive starts for the Jets prior to missing the Week 5 road win over the Denver Broncos.
As for Gang Green's special teams, the unit will be without its battled-tested gunner. Hardee earned a Pro Bowl nod for his prowess on specials last season. The Jets signed Charles off the Practice Squad. The second-year receiver was a gameday elevation last Sunday in Denver, causing a muffed punt during his NFL debut.
The official injury reports will be available shortly after 4:00 pm ET on Friday. It's worth monitoring the status of two key defensive players for the visiting Eagles. Cornerback Darius Slay and defensive tackle Jalen Carter both missed Thursday's practice.
