DENVER, CO – SEPTEMBER 17: Denver Broncos defensive tackle D.J. Jones pursues Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson in the fourth quarter at Empower Field at Mile High September 17, 2023. Denver on Wednesday ruled veteran Frank Clark and Baron Browning out for the Week 6 matchup against the Chiefs and did the same with defensive lineman D.J. Jones .He had knee surgery during the offseason and knew from then on that he wouldn’t be ready in time for the start of the regular season.

Payton said Tuesday that Williams might have played against the Jets had it been a playoff game or similarly critical situation. Instead, they gave him a few extra days to get past the injury entirely. The second-year player returned to practice for the first time Tuesday and was a limited participant. The Broncos only had a walkthrough Wednesday and therefore provided estimations, but said Dulcich would have been a full participant.

Payton on Tuesday was bullish about Dulcich’s return timeline, saying he’d been “working his tail off” and that he was close to a return. That despite the second-year tight end dealing with multiple injuries to the same hamstring over the 18 months since the Broncos drafted him in the third round of the 2022 draft.
