A medical transport jet operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, known for transporting David Ortiz after a shooting in the Dominican Republic, crashed in Philadelphia, raising concerns for the patient and crew involved.
A medical transport jet en route to Missouri carrying a child patient and five other individuals crashed in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening. The aircraft, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, specializes in providing global ambulance flight services.
This incident marks a tragic turn for the company, which previously played a crucial role in transporting Boston Red Sox legend and MLB Hall of Famer David Ortiz after he was critically injured in a shooting in the Dominican Republic on June 9, 2019. Ortiz sustained severe wounds at a bar in Santo Domingo, requiring emergency surgery. Following the incident, a Jet Rescue plane transported Ortiz to Boston, where he received further medical attention at Massachusetts General Hospital, including a second surgery. His recovery was remarkable, with Ortiz discharged from the hospital on July 26, 2019, over a month after the initial shooting. The suspected shooter, Rolfi Ferreira-Cruz, was apprehended, and an investigation revealed that Ortiz was not the intended target. The Dominican Attorney General announced on June 19, 2019, that Ortiz was mistakenly shot, and Sixto David Fernandez was the actual target. In the aftermath of the Philadelphia crash, Jet Rescue expressed its deepest concern for the patient's family, its personnel, their families, and any potential victims on the ground. President Donald Trump also reacted to the tragedy on Truth Social, expressing his sorrow and praising the first responders for their swift action
