“Public safety is the number one concern of my district, and it is, of course, the number one concern of mine,” she said in a campaign interview. Schultz said one of her proudest accomplishments during her first term was implementing a program to deter panhandling by directing residents to donate via a text service rather than giving to people on the street.
“What this has done is remove that income opportunity so that people who remain are the people who are genuinely in need of housing,” she said. “And, as we go and clean those areas, our outreach teams are able to work with them.”
