The Dallas mayoral and 14 district City Council seats were up for grabs Saturday.
Runoff elections are held between the top two vote-getters in a race where no candidate claims more than 50% of the vote.
District 3 council member Casey Thomas and District 10 council member Adam McGough were ineligible to run after serving the limit of four consecutive terms over eight years. Nearly 67,000 people voted early in person and another close to 2,000 submitted ballots by mall. Preliminary numbers as of 8:30 p.m. showed more than 45,000 voters hit the polls on Saturday, he said.“Overall, we are encouraged that it appears most voters took advantage of voting early,” Solorzano said. “It was higher than what we were estimating and the overall turnout is about on par with our initial projections since there wasn’t a competitive mayor’s race in Dallas to boost interest.
