A Japan Airlines plane collided with the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday, causing minimal impact on airport operations. Passengers on both flights remained unharmed.

A collision occurred at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on Wednesday, involving a Japan Airlines (JAL) aircraft and a Delta Air Lines aircraft. The incident took place around 10:15 a.m. on a taxi line between the S Concourse and the south airport maintenance hangars. According to the Port of Seattle, a JAL plane taxiing into the airport struck the tail of a Delta Boeing 737 aircraft that was parked.

Jason Chan, a passenger on the Delta flight, described the incident as feeling like the plane 'jiggled back and forth' and shook slightly. Shortly after, the captain informed passengers that the tail of the aircraft had been hit. Passengers remained calm, according to Chan, and were eventually bused back to the terminal. Delta Air Lines confirmed the incident, stating that the Boeing 737 was operating a flight from Seattle to Puerto Vallarta. The airline emphasized that there were no reported injuries to crew or passengers on the Delta flight and apologized for any inconvenience and travel delays caused by the incident. Passengers on the Delta flight were transferred to a different aircraft. Passengers on JAL Flight 67, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner bound for Tokyo Narita, reported waiting for updates from the airline regarding their flight status. The cause of the collision and the duration of the taxiway blockage remain unclear. Port of Seattle officials stated that airport operations were minimally impacted due to the incident's location on a taxi line.As of 2 p.m. PT, FlightAware reported at least 180 delays and 28 cancellations at SEA. The airport was already experiencing delays due to winter weather affecting the Pacific Northwest. The incident at SEA comes during heightened scrutiny of air travel safety, following recent high-profile accidents. In January, an American Airlines jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided and crashed into the Potomac River, resulting in the deaths of all 67 people on board both aircraft. Federal investigators are still investigating the cause of the crash. In Philadelphia, a medical plane carrying a child, her mother, and four crew members crashed into a neighborhood on January 31st, killing everyone on board and injuring over a dozen people on the ground. JAL issued a statement acknowledging the incident, stating that the right wing of flight JL68 came into contact with the tail of another aircraft while taxiing upon arrival at SEA. They confirmed no injuries to passengers or crew and apologized for any inconvenience caused. The airline stated that the detailed cause and circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation.
