The A-League boss is in talks with the Easter Road hierarchy to replace Lee Johnson.
The Easter Road officials are currently in talks with the A-League-winning manager to replace Lee Johnson, who was sacked last month. Aberdeen new boy McGarry played under him at Central Coast Mariners and admitted the club’s success, on one of the lowest budgets in the league, was mainly down to their highly-rated boss.
McGarry claimed: "Honestly, it was the best six months of my career so far. That was helped by the manager, Nick Montgomery, I had and the club environment he created. It was a very family-orientated group. I fitted in really well. I played 14 out of 14 games and we ended up going on and winning the Championship, which was just amazing.
Montgomery also has a proven track record of moving top talent on for big money. He sold Garang Kuol to Newcastle United and Sammy Silvera to Middlesbrough. There is also the Scottish-based contingent of Kye Rowles, Lewis Miller, McGarry and Mark Birighitti. The left-back admitted that Montgomery was all for him making the move to Aberdeen when they came calling last month.
"So I talked to my partner, we figured it out and made it happen but Monty has been massive for me. He said the gaffer here will be a perfect fit for me.”
