SNL comedian James Austin Johnson shares a nerve-wracking story about performing his Adam Driver impression in front of the actor himself. He describes the experience as 'terrifying' due to Driver's intense presence and facial expressions. Despite the pressure, Johnson persevered and Driver reportedly found it funny.
James Austin Johnson, a cast member on Saturday Night Live, shared a story about the time he impersonated Adam Driver in front of the actor himself. Johnson described the encounter as 'pretty terrifying,' noting that Driver had a 'scary look' on his face while watching him perform the impression. Johnson said, 'I love everything he does. I think he is hilarious and a little bit of a genius artist, and I like doing my impression of him. But impressions are kind of demeaning just as a concept.
And he is huge. Like, he's both a terrifying man as a presence. He's an intimidating artist. You typically don't get 'em both. You don't typically get a soldier who's a poet.' Despite the intimidating atmosphere, Johnson said he pushed through and did his best Adam Driver impression. According to Johnson, Driver approved of the performance, stating he found it funny. While Johnson didn't see Driver laugh, he said he's choosing to believe him. Johnson joined SNL in 2021 and has become known for his spot-on impressions, including those of celebrities like Elon Musk and Joe Biden. He has also impersonated Driver on the show several times, including during Weekend Update segments
