The milestone matchup between the Chiefs and the 49ers is fueling big dreams in Houston-area high school athletes.

At 5-foot-10 and still looking for a college home, Fort Bend Marshall's Jordon Davis feels a kinship with Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. As a senior, Davis passed for 2,542 yards and 30 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He also rushed for 911 yards and 16 scores.Kenneth Rosenthal found his college recruiting process to be frustrating at times. The Lamar High School senior kept getting inquiries about moving away from his quarterback position.

“It means a lot because I feel like there are Black quarterbacks who are oftentimes overlooked,” Rosenthal said. “A lot of us are dual-threat players, and that’s not seen as traditional, I guess, for some teams. It means a lot for to show that Black quarterbacks can play at a high level.” “He’s from around the same place that I am, and he’s doing big things for Texas,” Rosenthal said. “He’s representing our community well, being a Black quarterback from Texas, and he’s showing us that if you work hard and trust your process, you can do anything and you can make it anywhere.”The history that will be made Sunday is not lost on Hurts or Mahomes.

“Whenever a guy like Doug Williams or Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb goes out and plays great football, it gives other guys like me and Jalen this platform to have this spot on another NFL team,” Mahomes told reporters last week. “If we can continue to show that we can consistently be great, I think it will continue to open doors for other kids growing up to follow their dreams and be a quarterback of an NFL team.

Still, there were five who started for their teams in the playoffs. Bears second-year pro Justin Fields also flashed plenty of potential on a talent-starved roster, and the Seahawks’ Geno Smith revitalized his career after spending most of his nine years in the league as a backup.
