Jacinta Allan has emerged from a Victorian Labor caucus meeting as the premier-elect, after long-time leader Daniel Andrews announced he was calling time on the job after nine years.
Ms Allan was the youngest female Victorian MP when she was elected in 1999 at the age of 25, and became the youngest minister in the history of the state in 2002.
La Trobe University politics expert Ian Tulloch says Ms Allan faces a number of challenges in taking on the top job."But she's also got to continue, I think, on the trajectory that Daniel Andrews has committed to in terms of the huge infrastructure innovations which the Labor government's done over the last almost a decade now."
