Jacinta Allan is now set to become the 49th Premier of Victoria after challenger Ben Carroll withdrew his nomination to succeed Daniel Andrews.
Ms Allan's ascension to the state's top job was confirmed about 2.40pm on Wednesday following a caucus room meeting.
Shortly after, the right faction unanimously supported Mr Carroll setting up a potential showdown in the caucus room.But after meeting for almost 1.5 hours Mr Carroll withdrew from the race to leave the current deputy premier unopposed.Senior minister Lily D'Ambrosio came out strongly in support of Ms Allan before the meeting, saying she expects the current deputy leader will ascend to the top job.
