CLEVELAND , Ohio The family of the West Park man murdered by his neighbor earlier this month, is speaking out. Thomas Overall , 68, was fatally shot on May 14 while mowing his grass in the 15700 block of Munn Road.
“It isn’t lost on us the importance of mental health and taking these red flags seriously. It seems to us that this could have been prevented” said Whitney Schaff, Overall’s niece. Cleveland Police said Overall’s neighbor, Bryan Hurt, shot Overall and then drove to the nearby Rocky River Reservation and took his own life. Schaff said when the detective called her mom, Overall’s sister, she asked the police right away if the suspect was Hurt. Overall’s family held a memorial service this past Wednesday in his hometown of Farmington, Missouri.
