Meteorological fall starts on Sunday, but typical fall weather normally takes a few more weeks to arrive in South Texas. Here's a look.

Saturday is the last day of August, and that means meteorological fall starts on Sunday. That might have you dreaming of cool, crisp fall mornings on the porch, sipping on a hot coffee, but simply flipping the calendar to September doesn’t magically drop our temperatures immediately. Here in South Texas , it usually takes a few weeks to get our first real taste of fall air.

Here’s a close look at NOAA’s 2024 fall outlook. To answer that exact question, we turned to the history books. We analyzed all temperature data since 2000, and looked for the first day each fall when temperatures fell to 65 degrees or lower. We chose 65 degrees, rather than any temp under 70, to represent a day when San Antonio spends at least a few hours in the 60s, rather than just a few minutes.
