Gaza received its first deliveries of international humanitarian aid since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, and a mother and daughter from Illinois were freed by Hamas.
Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein of the Chabad of Evanston, near Chicago, where Judith Raanan is a community member, said he gave thanks during service Saturday that she and her daughter Natalie were safe after Hamas freed the two hostages from captivity in Gaza.
The past two weeks have been “beyond horrific,” he said. The community’s joy over the Raanans’ release has been tempered by the knowledge that others are still being held captive. “A full celebration can’t come until all the hostages are free,” he said.
