There were scenes of joy in the West Bank as families awaited to welcome the 90 prisoners who Israel freed as a part of the ceasefire deal. The 90 prisoners were released in exchange for the three Israeli hostages.
Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners, all women and children, early today local time as part of the first phase of the ceasefire.
Four additional hostages are expected to be released on Saturday as part of the 42-day first phase, with a total of 33 hostages and almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees set to be freed. Displaced Palestinians in Gaza began returning to their homes, mostly on foot, only to find much of the enclave has been reduced to rubble. The U.N. said 92% of all housing units have been destroyed.The World Health Organization said it would implement a 60-day plan to restore and expand the health system in Gaza, saying billions in investment is needed after much of it was destroyed.
