As Israel starts talking about accountability, Netanyahu tweets – and then deletes – blame for his intelligence chiefs
"At no time and no stage was a warning given to Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding war intentions of Hamas. On the contrary, all security officials, including the head of army intelligence and the head of the Shin Bet, estimated that Hamas was deterred and interested in an arrangement," he wrote on his official X account.
Mr Netanyahu is often called "the magician" for his political savvy. He has been in public life for almost three decades. He has been elected to six terms as PM. A long-running corruption scandal and months of unrest over his proposed judicial reforms have not brought him down. "It's also important to recognise that Israel has a right to defend itself, but how it does that matters.
