Starfield’s Dream Home comes at a huge cost.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Starfield includes a perk that lets characters start out with a house in their name, but it comes with a severe penalty. In character creation, Starfield allows players to pick Traits that affect their play style and will follow them for the rest of the game. Each has its pros and cons, and most of them increase one stat while decreasing another, sometimes situationally.

Dream Home gives the player character a house from the very beginning of their save. As the name implies, it's one of the nicest places in the galaxy to live, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and an outdoor deck with a lovely panoramic view of the Nesoi landscape. It also has a very private location, being the only structure on the planet. The catch is that it comes with a hefty mortgage: 125,000 credits, plus 500 credits interest compounded weekly.

How To Pay Off Your Dream Home Debt In Starfield Unfortunately, there's no payment plan for the Dream Home, so all 125,000 credits must be paid in full. The mortgage is managed by Landry Hollifield, an exacting financier operating out of the Galbank in New Atlantis. Once a character has established contact with him, all they'll need to do is start saving up.

It may be unsavory, but the best way to make money quickly in Starfield is to become a space pirate. This can either be done officially by joining the Crimson Fleet, or unofficially by simply raiding ships and smuggling contraband. Joining other factions, like Ryujin Industries and Xenofresh Corporation, may be lucrative endeavors, too. Starfield's Outposts can also make easy money by selling resources.

Traits affect how the game is played, so the choice shouldn't be taken lightly. Those who plan to do a lot of crafting and hoarding would benefit from having a base of operations from the beginning. The debt seems steep at first, but is surprisingly manageable. There's no place like home in the vast and often hostile galaxy of Starfield, and there's no better option for lodging than taking the Dream Home Trait.
