An Iowa man is facing felony charges for making threatening calls, emails and sending letters with unknown white granular substances to school, officials and police in Niles.

After elected officials, an elementary school and police in Niles received emailed threats and a white granular substance sent to them in the mail, police said in a news release that a 31-year-old Iowa man has been charged with multiple felonies for the incidents. Niles police investigating the threats narrowed down their search to Adam Provost of Council Bluffs, Iowa, they said, accusing him of sending threatening emails, letters, and phone calls between Oct. 6 and Oct. 23.

11, Niles police said they received a letter from Provost that contained an unknown white substance. The material was found not to be hazardous and no injuries were reported. On Oct. 16, Provost allegedly left threatening voicemails to Niles police and to a school resource officer saying that he had placed a chemical weapon inside of a school. Police said they knew Provost was still in Council Bluffs and did not present a threat to any schools in Niles.
