The NCAA Tournament featured an annoying and lengthy horn delay in the Iowa vs. Illinois game in the Elite 8.

Fighting Illini suited up for an Elite 8 game on Saturday evening, and things went well, up until there were under eight minutes left in the first half. Iowa initially came out guns blazing, immediately connecting on shots and taking advantage of Illinois misses.

However, the Illini stormed back to make it a two-point game, closing the gap to 22-20. Soon after they did, the clock was at 7:43 remaining, and the horn used for the game began blaring away. Despite the best attempts at shutting the noisy device off, individuals working the equipment were unable to do so, and it continued for seven minutes or so, according to TBS's game commentator Kevin Harlan.Due to the lengthy delay, several racks full of basketballs were wheeled back onto the court so the teams could practice shooting to stay warmed up while individuals addressed the noisy horn. Yahoo Sports shared a video clip of just how bothersome that horn can be when it doesn't stop going off. The unbearable noise likely caused some individuals to cover the ears of young children as it continued. The commentators shared that some individuals tried to unplug the horn and plug it back in, but that didn't seem to fix things right away. According to Yahoo Sports' X post, the delay lasted for 11 minutes during the March Madness game, which was the first of two for Saturday. "We’ve got a horn issue. And there’s nothing more painful than that," Kevin Harlan said of the issue. During the interruption, players began shooting and doing their pregame drills to maintain their level of activity and stay fresh in case the situation got fixed. Eventually, it did much to the delight of the commentary crew and fans in the arena. "Do we have a working shot clock, though?" commentator Stan Van Gundy asked, and another commentator mentioned that the scoreboard went out. Once things resumed, Iowa scored another layup to extend its lead to four points. They maintained control through the remainder of the half, although Illinois continued to stay within reach, thanks to Andrej Stojakovic. The winner of the game would become the first team to reach the Final Four and receive a matchup against the winner of Sunday's anticipated UConn vs. Duke game.
