Apple's upcoming iOS 18.4 update is anticipated to bring significant changes, particularly to Siri, with enhanced personalization and contextual awareness. New emojis, performance improvements, and security patches are also on the horizon.
This week, Apple delivered the iOS 18.3 update for eligible iPhones. While it may not be as feature-packed as iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, this update introduced several new features, including updated Notification Summaries, mobile Safari enhancements, Calculator app improvements, and various bug fixes. With this update behind us, the focus is shifting towards iOS 18.4.
Although this upcoming update is not yet available in beta form for developers, we already have some clues about its potential contents.According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 18.4 will likely center around a significantly revamped Siri that is deeply integrated with Apple Intelligence. While Siri was previously updated with Apple Intelligence, a more substantial upgrade is anticipated in the coming months. This iteration of Siri will possess the capability to comprehend and retain your preferences, past interactions, and device-stored information to deliver more personalized and relevant responses. For instance, Siri will learn your favorite contacts, sports team, or the most frequently used app. Gurman suggests that the often-criticized digital assistant will soon be able to access a user’s data and view the current display on their phone screen. This contextual awareness should enhance the assistant’s response accuracy. Moreover, it will incorporate upgraded App Intents software, enabling more precise voice control over the operating system. Siri is also expected to gain the ability to interact more meaningfully with apps, allowing users to execute actions within those apps using voice commands. This could encompass tasks like sending messages, creating reminders, or editing photos, all without manually opening the app. The upcoming iOS 18 update is projected to expand Apple Intelligence by adding support for several new languages: Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Apple typically introduces new emojis with its spring iOS updates, and iOS 18.4 is anticipated to follow this trend. The Unicode Consortium has already approved a fresh emoji set for 2025, which may include items such as a fingerprint, a face with bags under the eyes, a harp, and more. Like any iOS update, iOS 18.4 is expected to deliver various bug fixes and performance enhancements that improve your device’s overall stability and speed. Additionally, the iOS 18.4 update is likely to include new security patches.A wide range of iPhone models will receive iOS 18.4. Supported devices encompass every phone in the iPhone 11 to iPhone 16 series, as well as the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone SE (3rd generation). A limited number of iPhones support Apple Intelligence, including the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Developers are likely to get their hands on the first taste of iOS 18.4 in the coming days, followed shortly by Apple’s public beta testers. The public is expected to witness the release of iOS 18.4 in April or May
