Navigating social niceties is hard, no matter how old you are. How much do you tip your pizza delivery driver? When do you send a thank-you note? Do you have to accept that party invitation from your friend who lives way across town? We hope we can help.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sometimes navigating social niceties is hard. How much do you tip your pizza delivery driver? When do you send a thank-you note? Do you have to accept that party invitation from your friend who lives way across town?Inspired by a New York Magazine etiquette guide that went viral a few months ago, reporters fromand The Plain Dealer wrote their totally subjective, totally Midwestern takes on societal questions, the common manners that make our world a more pleasant place to live.
We tackled workplace issues, dating conundrums and run-of-the-mill interactions, from cleaning up after yourself at a ball game to taking your co-workers’ food out of the microwave. . To be clear, these takes were not written by one or two staff writers; the opinions you’ll see throughout this guide all week long were volunteered by reporters of all ages, with a variety of backgrounds. You will find the name of the reporter who offered their thoughts on the question at the end of each response. Hopefully you’ll gain some perspective from their views, start a conversation with family, friends or co-workers, or at the very least, get a chuckle. If you disagree, that’s OK, too.
The answers to these questions, and dozens more, will run online throughout this week. They will publish online mid-morning each day through Saturday. If you miss any installments, we’ll include links to previous posts, so you can click back and catch up.If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
