So I think that for the world, she will be a historic figure, not just for the United States, because everyone looks to us and they look to our leadership. And if we can finally break this glass ceiling—a glass ceiling that even younger democracies have broken, more than once some of them—if we can finally do it, I think that it is just going to send ripples throughout the world about what it is that women can accomplish and what it is that women can do.
Do I think that we should all have to go through this? No. Do I think that, after generations and generations of fighting, we should live in a space where equity and equality are truly who we are? Yeah, I think so. How long have we had to fight to prove that there's nothing weird or odd about me because of the amount of melanin in my skin? We bleed the same. Same thing with women. How long have we had to fight? And we're fighting every single day.
The final point I'll make is that people need to understand that the elected person isn't necessarily always the most powerful person in the room.
