Mayor Brandon King appointed a new police chief late Tuesday, hours after a grand jury indicted four officers in an investigation into police corruption.
EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio –
King, in a statement, named Brian Gerhard as the new top cop in a department that has seen nine officers indicted in the past two months. Gerhard, who was a captain earlier this year, became interim chief when the department’s leader, Scott Gardner, was indicted in August on tax and theft charges. Gardner was placed on administrative leave days after he was charged.
